Innate Harmony in Giving

if the hummingbird
was ever offbeat
would the flower
withhold its treat?

Hope You’re Listening

March 26, 2022 by Russell Wardlow Leave a Comment

a whole bunch of words
said nothing
essence of the substance spoken
abandoned
and although
I believe I said something
the missing magic
rendered the words as letters
empty and separate
even though some
still may like the theatrics
of what is said
the mind loves tricks
amusement misses mark of mastery
but the ever ominous they
too, have something to say
and with all that is said,
nothing, at all was said
but I still feel like
I have so much more, to say
silence may fulfill this urge best
hope you’ll hear me

Illusions as Good as Reality

March 23, 2022 by Russell Wardlow Leave a Comment

my lower god said,
I got this!
my higher God said,
I got that!
my lower god said,
I got me!
my higher God said,
I got you!
battling within myself
pendulum of problem and solution
seemingly the problem is more enticing
than the solution
at least down here,
I keep my illusions of
power and control!

My Words to You, Gift-Wrapped

March 22, 2022 by Russell Wardlow Leave a Comment

I got you a God-given gift
it’s my God-given gifts
because God gives and gets
so I give it up
and give it all
to God
to get the World and the Girl-
my God-Given Gift!

Mid-Air

March 20, 2022 by Russell Wardlow Leave a Comment

hovering between world’s
I pondered the depths of sky
and as the sun shown
heating the risen land
to which was stood
much came forth
by time the feet cooled
at moon’s sighting

Erect Your Spine

March 18, 2022 by Russell Wardlow Leave a Comment

the flood came last
lo, foundation lost
the backbone bent
a temple’s collapsed pillars
shocks felt through the kingdom
the beginning of a civilization lost
and the air shallow
the quickening intakes quaked the constitution
confusion
the flood overtook land
animals ran about unchecked
equilibrium as extinct,
as the land before time
forces from below overwhelmed
taking over the empire
only instinct could save one
the throne usurped
doorways closed
hallways submerged
invertebrates siphoned vitality
ruins became legacy,
for generations
to a dismembered civilization
and as ages passed
time forgot
but seekers sought
waters receded
creepy crawlers swarmed the land
and over old pillars
an archaic memory made of legends
ran rampant by creatures of the ground
solar energy barely able to penetrate the infestation
and meet the ocean of mud
where lotuses waited for renewal
a life force hearing a call to awakening
a legacy, all but lost
now remembering its kingdom
though for now, unrecognizable
still any piece of peace found
can be salvaged
but first
one must restore the pillars
after which,
everything else will come forth
