You’re smarter than this

October 20, 2020 by Russell Wardlow Leave a Comment

“You know you better, you’re smarter than this
you have so much potential, but you harbor resent”
descent descent descent
I’m goin down, I’m far from decent
I had my knees bent
calling on Jesus
trying to repent
soon after, another let down, pain too recent
wont speak the reason, you see the reason
briefly, I stopped believing
I-just-stopped, be-lieve-me
some-one-will-come, and some-one’s-will-be-leaving
bills vs income or tree’s leaves leaving
see it, every season, I re-live it, no re-lief, nothing re-lieves-me
like weed-leafs, unless that tree re-leafs, then I drink green tea
but in 3 seasons my grief re-peats
each time that thin line re-cedes
pain isnt bias, a lot of byes, walking by, and the hi’s or highs you buy, don’t-need-re-ciepts
enduring de-ceit and dis-ease, attacks like disease
hard to stand strong, on cement, above demons, with de-feat
process de-pletes, progress de-letes, profits de-crease
this same inciteful, cycle, leaves me spiteful
that’s why I wasn’t better, why I wasnt smarter than this
but I became the scarred artist, that wrote his own broken heart, with something sharp across his wrist
so you all could read and better see the why towards my
descent descent descent

Need you to need me

October 16, 2020 by Russell Wardlow Leave a Comment

I just want to feel useful

like I need it

I have this bottomless desire to just be able to do anything

to constantly be of service

or I feel like I’ve bottomed out

I need to be needed

I need you to need me

need me please

please, need me

Rewarded Punishers

October 13, 2020 by Russell Wardlow Leave a Comment

Imprison me

and it’s a political and capitalistic win-win

Prepackaged,

a voteless tax write off

a cheap laborer whom you reap federal funds off

a slam dunk stock option

population control

many sub-industries and subcontractors are created and benefit

clearly stated

I am a bounty

and you are a bounty hunter

because my punishment

is your reward

I don’t feel good

or normal

unless something is wrong

“what’s wrong?”

ME!

“huh?”

what

“whats wro?”

EVERYTHING!

Chance

October 10, 2020 by Russell Wardlow Leave a Comment

There you are

looking so much better up close-

than I imagined from a distance,

I needed to see you

to better understand the hype

thoughts of you have been consistent,

maybe it’s a sign

hearing you in everyone’s dialogue

your name is quite persistent,

being locked away for years

if I met you

wondering if my life would be different,

I suppose that you’re like most

and rather experience connections near you

probably not liking the distance,

but image to be honest with you

after seeing so many of the same faces

I’m ready willing and wanting our visit,

hopefully I’d handle the pressure well

raw beauty is hard to confront

especially when it exceeds what I’ve envisioned,

but I want you in your fullness

and every promise I’m told that accompanies you

pronounced without any inhibitions nor limits,

I admit I was a critic

a cynic in wake of crickets, but I get it

your name is Chance, and all I ask for is a minute

Misconstrued Nature

October 8, 2020 by Russell Wardlow Leave a Comment

People will find a reason to separate

and hate

if not given enough reasons to unite

and love

somehow human nature

has become only destructive

nature, minorities and women know this best
