Frantz Fanon posed the question
am I all I say I am, am I all I ought to be?
when you ask what black history means to me
it means the many black skins taking off their white masks
they’ve leased, to appease the sensitivities of the white mass
what does it mean to me
well it’s more than revisited dream speak, memes, tweets, the schematically buried burden of by any means, and ominous screams and pleas for peace and equality themes for me
it means black regency
aspiring beyond permission and leniency
and by any other estimation
it should mean more than name commemoration
and overbalanced martin Luther king Jr memorialization
as if he was the only martyr to suffer from a steadfast and laborious effort with the threat of impending death by assassination
or the cobra clutch of a snail’s pace in a race against time to witnessing the realization of liberation
awakening the state and charging the stake of a nation
from its stay at discrimination
and dissonance of capitulation
it should mean reinvigoration for more representation
and less misrepresentation
representation in the courtrooms
in legislation
in government and in each district
in law enforcement
representation in public and governmental leaders
in boards of education
in production with its base in entertainment
displaying dark faces
where narratives are often swayed and stimulate change and the understanding of behavior and the historical effects of enslavement telling our stories, behind the cameras, and expanded roles within the eyes of the camera’s angles
in having ownership, equal partnership, a seat at the table in labels and organizations
in banking institutions and management
representation in medicine, clinics, hospitals, and insurance and their governing boards rearranged
representation in nutrition health and wellness
in farming and land ownership
in museums, scientists, coders, historians, and anthropologists
in philosophers, sociologists, therapists, and psychologists
in administrators, directors, coaches
and reinvest in the misappropriated culture
and their original home which western influence and interest reigns with the constant mining of resources
after missionaries trampled with treats to trick a conversion of beliefs and speech in an effort to modernize an undeveloped mind with Eurocentric seeds
to a people believed to be degrees beneath in need of pure white hearted relief
black history spans beyond this country
because we span beyond this country
being spanned from our own country
to being disbanded, stranded, famished, and underhanded due to the nefarious and inhumane plans and demands of capital land and advantage, gaping wounds from the transatlantic only bandaged by the very provoking hands who still hide their hands, shamming lambs to flock for aid and grants across this clock hands tick-tocking jockeying distracting spams like rivers and dams spanning expanded brands and boarders brandished as black bodies drop or drill in the fields to fill holes spanning this diverse land lacking diversity in chance though unnoticeable with just a glance at this country
so when I ask who I am
and am I all I ought to be
I question the intentions behind the words freedom and liberty
because my abilities
somehow are predicted and distributed by the plans of this country
what does black history mean to me?
realizing the black faces draped in white masks
and the black bodies filling the hollow grounds which big business builds atop the lands of this country
because black skins and white masks
really indicated that blacks can not advance
without appealing to or appearing like, the white mass
black history is about remembering
through diligence, plight, and suffering
there is still another path
but is it fear…?
well the fact that we have to have a black history month shows that as a question we do not need to ask
