Contagious Connections

if you’re sick
I’m sick
because universal contract tracing says
we are all connected
therefore, your breath is vital to me
because my breath is vital to you
since we breathe, and share the same air
it shouldn’t take a pandemic,
to paint this picture
though it took one
to create more distance

it’s the mistakes
which broke us
then brought other
things, people, places
together
now bound to us
individually
but are we yet healed
in these new opened
circles?
I’ve carried you
with me still,
I feel you may have
done the same.
unknowing
in some ways
it is a mistake, still
unintended
old scars, new wounds-
blended
but it bears purpose,
behold it
what I’m saying is
I can see now,
it all worked out
perfectly
but hindsight is

as we lied
on the gates guarding our breath
my nose nestled
in the nape of your neck
and my heart connected
to the line of life forces
adorning your vertebrae
with each united inhale
and exhale
we ascended the 7 steps
to heaven
as I held you
and we became one
in every sense of the way
